Symposium on telehealth to convene at UPMC
As UPMC expands global access to quality health care, remote access through telemedicine is becoming an increasingly important vehicle of delivery. To bring focus, learning, and investigation to this growing field, UPMC International and Commercial Services (ICSD) will convene the UPMC Telehealth Symposium in fall 2010, an international gathering of experts and interested parties.
The symposium will investigate the clinical aspects of telemedicine, both domestic and international, policies, and reimbursement, as well as the logistics and technology behind telemedicine. The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has designated the symposium, to be held Thursday, Nov. 4, and Friday, Nov. 5, at the Herberman Conference Center at UPMC Cancer Pavilion, UPMC Shadyside, an educational activity, receiving CME credit.
ICSD supports business planning, legal considerations, education, government relations, information technology, and development of new technologies for telemedicine. Delivery of telehealth services is through live conferencing, remote monitoring, and store-and-forward technology. With UPMC’s advanced technology infrastructure, health care providers can deliver the same high-quality health care through remote and virtual means as they do through face-to-face interactions.
Telemedicine capabilities include ED consults, teledermatology, teleophthalmology, telepathology, telepsychiatry, teleradiology, telestroke, telewound care, teletrauma, eVisits, home health monitoring, and second opinions. The conference will address telemedicine as a driver of high performance in health care, telehealth and law, and the European Union view of the field, among other topics.
Physicians are encouraged to attend for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Other health care professionals are awarded continuing education units (CEUs). Credit is commensurate with the extent of participation.
Registration is limited, and will be on a first come basis. For more information or to register, visit UPMC.com/telehealth or call 412-647-7114.
